  • North Carolina 4-H Shooting Sports held it's 2nd Annual NC 4-H Hunting Skills Tournament on Saturday January 13th at the Millstone 4-H Center and the John M Lentz Hunter Education Center and Range in Ellerbe NC. HOA for the Tournament and Senior Division was Stephen Walker from Davie County 4-H Shooting Sports with a score of 451/600, followed by Ivey Wilkie (2nd) from Henderson County and Dakota Anderson 3rd) from Iredell County. Top Juniors were Will Hammond 1st from Iredell County, 2nd-Spencer Davis from Randolph County and Jacob Meads form Camden County. Top Team was Iredell County with Brooke Simpson, Hannah Loftin, Trish Corn and Austin Chambers and Top Junior team was Camden County with Nathan Tanner, Garett Harthsbarger and Jacob Meads. The tournament consists of 6 Challenges including 5-Stand Shotgun, 3-D Archery, Rifle (Animal Targets from 20 to 90 yds) Hunting Skills Trail, Wildlife ID and Hunter Decision making with Shoot/Don't Shoot scenes. The tournament is also used to determine the NC 4-H Hunting Skills Team that will participate in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships held in Grand Island, Nebraska tjhe last week of June. This event is held by NC 4-H Shooting Sports and supported by NRA YHEC. (Youth Hunter Education Challenge)
