  • Just getting around to putting a couple videos together of the kid's deer hunts. They are pretty good if I do say so myself!

My 6 yr old boy takes his first deer.... and he worked hard for it. He helped in the food plot, helped work on the stand, put in plenty of time practice shooting, and made quite a few trips to the stand, etc. I don't know who was more excited him or me... but I doubt either one of us will forget it anytime soon!

Amy Faith, being a senior in high school stays pretty busy, so she wasn't able to hunt till her Christmas break, but was able to get a late season buck down. Both great hunts and proud to be apart of the next generation learning to hunt. ... QCfjqBziiA ... QCfjqBziiA

I was able to get video footage of an awesome turkey hunt! The field was full of birds to include 9 Toms. I had 3 Toms hang-up just out of range and after about a 10 min. stand-off they finally commit and come in nicely!

Here is a clip of our rabbit hunt this weekend. Dogs pounded the rabbits all day long and we ended up w. 11 which is not too bad for these parts!

Had a great time rabbit hunting w/ good friends and got some pretty good footage of dog work, kill shots and having a good time w/ the guys in the woods. Also had a young hunter along - who for his birthday told his dad he wanted to go hunting!

Got to check out this kill shot at about 2 min 30 sec.! Then there is another good one at about 3 min 45 sec.

Amy is the exception to many high school age girls, she loves the outdoors and loves to hunt!

So far this year she has taken dove, squirrel and deer. After this past weekend, we can add rabbit to that list. I carried a camera and tried to do my best to get her in the right spot at the right time to bust a bunny. It proved a bit of a challenge, but in the end we pulled it off!

If interested, here are pics of her deer, squirrel and dove hunts.

Good article regarding late season strategies for wary ducks. We were fortunate to squeeze in a couple decent hunts at the very end of the season.

Took just two dogs out this past week for a short afternoon hunt. Had a veteran female named Fancy and a first yr pup we call Whitey. Were able to get a couple kill shots on video and I demo how to 'push gut a rabbit' in the field - no knife needed!

Check OSR (Our Southern Roots) Rabbit Hunters - its wintertime in TN and time to rabbit hunt!

We experimented last year with filming some hunts and have big plans for the next two months. Stay tuned. We hope to have GoPro's on the guns and a GoPro on one or more dogs. We have a 42 ft. man lift and hope to get some footage of the hunt from that vantage point. All experimenting for now, but hopefully we'll have some cool footage to share before long. We learned last year it takes a rabbit hunter to be able to film a rabbit hunt. And getting good footage is much harder than it looks!

And while your at it - check out Whitey's first rabbit. Always a special moment when a young dog run his first rabbit to the gun! He's on his way to making a very fine rabbit dog.

What is your favorite hunting knife. I bought a Buck Vanguard about 10 years ago and it continues to be my favorite knife to take to the woods w/ me.

Amy worked hard this season to get her first deer. From sighting in the rifle and practicing with it to waiting patiently in the stand to finally get an opportunity. And once the deer step out and offered a shot, Amy executed perfectly!

First deer are an awesome experience. I can honestly say it was more enjoyable and rewarding to help her get this deer, than any of the deer I killed personally this season!
