  • Me and my brother, both 30+ year experienced hunters from NC, are looking for a QDM (preferably Bow Hunting only but flexible) club. We both work hard, year round to improve the land and we will both be an asset to any club that is looking to add 2 ethical qdm hunters. Our current land is shared with a few other hunters that do not have the same 'hunting philosophy' so we are looking to make a move. We prefer Caswell, Chatham, Orange, Durham, Person, Granville, Vance or Wake Counties. If anyone out there thinks we might be a fit your club or lease, please let me know. Good luck to you all!!

    Thanks,
    Chad

I got sad news today. Our 14 pt massive buck that we have been hunting for 3 years now was hit by a car and killed yesterday morning. Highway patrol called nc wildlife out to get the deer. He is said to be close to, if not a new state record. Granville County. I'm sick...

1st post ever on nc sportsman. After reading i had to reply. just to set the record straight i still hunt (bow, blackpowder and rifle) and dog hunt. i have dog hunted and still hunted since i was 10. im now 31. ive seen it all...the 10% and the 90%. im still laughing at the anti dog hunters comments. i will guess that 90% of you that are ripping dog hunting...have never done it. So i just want to touch on a few points.
    1. 'Dog hunting is unethical or not fair'...and you are comparing this to what? I really hope you say bowhunting... if not im still laughing.
    2. 'just keep your dogs off everyone else's land'...i could be wrong here, but you are prob. that guy that moved to nc from up north. you own 30 acres in the middle of our 1000 and now you think you own the world. Trust me, we dont want our dogs on your land as much as you dont because we dont want to here you cry about it.
    3. 'dog hunters are lazy'...i would love to know exactly what you mean by this. what do you call sitting in one place all day??? Dont forget i still hunt to.
    4. 'dog hunters are cheap'... wow...obv. you havent taken care of 20-25 walkers before.
    5. 'all dog hunters kill are deer you let walk'...i somewhat get your point here, but not always true. Ive seen some monsters killed in front of dogs. Im not talking 16 inch 8 pt basket racks either.
    6. 'dog hunting isnt a pastime or family tradition'... maybe not anymore because of you... and if you believe this, then either you arent from nc or your parents and grandparents were not hunters. dog hunting started here and if you dont like it hunt somewhere else. Quit trying to run us off land we have always been able to dog hunt.

i could go on and on, but the bottom line is that we all love to hunt or we wouldnt be on here. Still hunters please remember...We want to leave you alone as much as we want you to leave us alone. I understand both sides of this debate, but for the ones that are hating on dog hunting and have never tried it. Give it a try if you get the chance and you will definitely have a different outlook on dog hunting when the day is over.

That's a stud!!! Congrats. What county? I saw a buck in Granville County on camera a few times last year during the rut that looked really similar. His left main beam was broke off right after his last tine.

Very nice buck....500 yards for trailing a deer like this, I bet you were a mess. What part of Granville County you hunt?? I hunt off of 96 right outside of Oxford.

Deer population is way down. I hunted in Granville County the last two days and didn't see 1 deer. I have hunted this same land for 6 or 7 yrs now and never has this happened. It should have been ideal hunting today. Its very disappointing and discouraging.

I saw one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen in Caswell County about 5 yrs ago on the gamelands. I wish every hunter in NC would read your post to see what happens when you let 120-130 class deer walk. If others would start doing it this state could start producing more great bucks like yours. Nice deer...great decision last yr!!!

A comment titled: Could be EHD in response to a report titled: Anyone else having this experience

Depending on what county your in or area you hunt. I know Franklin County lost over 70% of the herd in certain parts of the county. I do a little dog hunting in franklin county between early bow season and November then again in December. Guys I dog hunt with said they did not jump one deer last Saturday. Normally they run multiple deer throughout the day but not one this past Saturday. EHD wiped them out and it could be the same in many counties and just hasn't been confirmed yet.

We had the deer cleaning the corn out until acorns covered the ground. Deer vanished. Now they are coming back to the corn. Acorns are starting to rot and they are slowly moving back to the corn. Movement has also picked up. Bucks are chasing a lot and we have seen a few nicebucks the last two weeks which had vanished since mid September. Deer haven't had to move much to get their bellies full on acorns.

Very good bow kill...a lot of people hunt for years and will never kill one bigger than yours...plus a bow kill. Congrats...looks like you need to do a little predator hunting in the off season.

A comment titled: Trepassing??? in response to a report titled: Doghunting

FYI its Trespassing I never said that i break the law by trespassing when i dog hunt. My dogs coming on your land isnt trespassing either. I stated earlier that i do everything i can to keep my dogs off land that i dont have permission to hunt, and i am sorry for when that happens, but when it does happen...i have every right to be in the right of way of the highway to call my dogs out. The state owns the right of way, not you or anyone else. Please stop hating on dog hunting. Not everyone that dog hunt trespass. For that matter, not all still hunters follow the law either.

Sorry to upset you, but yeah it did. Dog hunting in the US started in the mid 1700s in Kentucky, NORTH CAROLINA, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
