  • Hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas! Apologize, for my absence....Been a real busy fall, but did get a few trips to the woods! Early in rifle season was able to take my preacher with me on a cabarrus county rifle hunt to my honeyhole spot! Guess what.....Nada thing! Was able to return 2 days later with the weather cooperating, to the same stand and harvest a really nice 7pt. Man, I hated to inform preacher of what had happened! He weighed 155#, and had an inside spread of 17 1/4. Later on in the same week was able to hunt with my 5year old and harvest a really nice 120# doe! Man was this youngin' pumped up after the shot! I certainly have been blessed this season! P.S. I've been periodically checking the board to see how successful everyone has been this year....'High-Five' to all!!

The boys and I did a 'lil fishin' at Uncle Jakie's and Aunt Betty's house! Man they have a great pond to fish and all I can say is my boys had an incredible time! Many fish were caught...bass, bream, mudfish, jackfish, and catfish!

Same to you on your '05 SP bearded hen! About a week before harvesting him I had surgery! So I thought about for a few weeks, then decided to go with caping him out into a rug! Wish I could have afforded to full mount him! Gonna attempt to harvest his brother next spring, and if so he ought to be a nice 2yr. old, then I might be in a better situation!

After being laid up in the hospital and recouping at home after surgery on 5/8. It certainly was a nice surprise when I opened up the june issue and saw that I had won something! Not since elementary school had I won anything! Quite a surprise!! Doing great, low and slow! Did go for a walk around a farm pond with my 4 year old! He caught a few bream! Ready to get back in the swing of things! Thanks!

Killed this gobbler 4/23. 18 1/2 lbs. 5' beard, and 5/8 spurs! Have not harvest a jake in years but could not pass up the chance at this rare bird! All I could say that morining was 'wow', how blessed to be in the woods this morning!

    May 06, 2012 at 9:17pm

Dad, along with his favorite future hunting buddies! Last but not least a fine NC gobbler. 22lbs. 11 1/2 beard, and 1' spurs!

    May 06, 2012 at 8:43pm

Really could not ask for a better Turkey season! Got to hunt a total of 4 hunts, one with my 4 yr, old! We almost scored on our 1st trip to the turkey woods together! Got this one a few days later. Have seen 1 or 2 hens this color, but never a gobbler! Smoke Phase NC Gobbler 18 1/2# 5' beard, 5/8 spur. Swampprowler usually doesn't harvest a juvenile, but this one was quite rare! He came in soundin' like a full grown thunder chicken gobblin' his head off with 2 other fellas! It really was sight to see! Then a few days later. Had a great hunt in iredell county! Harvested a great bird 22# 11 1/2' beard, 1' spurs! My two best hunting buddies got a chance at a photo opt with their BIGGEST FAN, DAD!!

Gt...this was not a snapping opposum!! Only some of the finest meat in the outdoors, you could wrap your teeth around!! Caught a alligator snapper in allendale, sc years ought to have seen what all he had growing on him! He was so big he would not fit in a #5 wash tub, but man did he eat!!

Right with you! GT the first one I put my hads on was a beast! Don't claim to have the strongest hands in NC, but the one I put my hands on was BAD! My partner said he was probably 50+! The strength they have in the water is SICK!! I went down in that water and with my mind set that the 1st one I put my hands on is gonna come up with me.................Wrong answer!!

Thanks GT! Still laying low! But as far as recooperating....GREAT! NCTurkey...very rare bird to find in the woods! Nothing overshadowed here!! I think these are amazing! From what i have read gobblers carry the gene for this color phase during breeding. Predominately hens show the color phase, rarely though! Gobblers are even more rare, from what I have read. Did you mount your's or did you do a rug?? GobblinTom...need a spursuader??how to get in touch with GT??

No.......I don't have that vest. Plain ole mossy oak.....Thanks GT for the excitement! Hey...GT sent ya a request for a visit maybe one day. Would like to take day trip once my surgery is complete and recovered enough to ride towards Lexington area. I love friction calls! Turkey vest is full of them! Picked up from all over...Glass, slate, wood pot, corian pot, acrylic, you name it my vest is full...Guess I don't have the time or effort to put in on diaphrams. Slate is my favorite. Like the old boss hen on one end, and sweet clucks, yelps it can produce on the other. Love glass too! Confiedence kills turkeys! I guess thats why I am a slate turkey call lover! Surgery's tomorrow! Hope and pray as I write this letter that everything will be alright this time tomorrow evening! Special thanks to everyone on this forum for their thoughts! Redneck01, great job today!Really wanna put my hands on a pursuader GT! Your list keeps on growing! So, just put mine on backorder, but gonna hold ya to it!

A comment titled: Thanks.. in response to a report titled: NC Smoke Phase Gobbler.

Been a SCsportsman for several years. Lived in NC for many years, but hunted SC. Only until marriage to my beautiful wife Amy! Later two handsome children followed and then changed the range on hunting and fishing! Chose to stay close to home versus a drive to the low state of SC where I cut my teeth in the woods! Wish I would have started looking for land to hunt up in '94 when I moved up here instead of '05. Seems as though the wildlife around here has flourished since '94? Thanks again! Duplin BH!
