  • I spotted this 10 lb, 11 oz (of which I was unaware weighed this much initially) once I first saw his shadow hanging out just below an overhanging willow tree. It was unusually windy by April standards; however, I prefer a bit of ripple to the water as I have always had better luck. Anyhow, I was fishing a local farm pond and I knew there was a rich supply of crawfish within the water so I tied on a 6 inch, brush-hog (pumpkin-chartreuse, 3/0 Gamakatsu) on a Carolina rig as I didn't want the fish to pick my bait up and spit out upon noticing the weight head (i.e., Texas rig). Long-story short, first cast, first twitch......we have a keeper!

A comment titled: catch & release in response to a report titled: An Absolute Pig

Thanks for each of the comments. Oddly enough, upon weighing the bass & getting her measurements, I released the fish back into a small stocked-pond near my house. I would much rather see my little nephew catch this sucker all over again next Spring when it's still full of eggs (i.e., 1/2 - 1 lb. larger)and ready to be caught again! Plus, I can always send the measurements of the fish to a local taxidermist for a mount and ultimately, get the best of both worlds. Anyhow, thanks for all the comments
