Need some help guys... So I take all my shots from a seated position, about 12-15' high. Shots range from 20-25 yards. All of my arrows keep sailing high. Like right over they back. On opening day I took my first shot at a doe and zip right over her back. Next doe a lil later I compensated for it by aiming like a FOOT below her with my 20yard pin even though she was at 23 yards. Perfect placement, didn't even make it 30 yards. This morning, nice 6 pointer and compensated for it again like I did the last time, and the arrow sailed again a lil high, struck the buck at top of back, dead center to where I was aiming. Was clean pass through. Arrow soaked in blood, pretty good blood trail for 100yards... Then it just disappears... Have looked at looked for hours... Very angry at myself for not recovering... I am trying to stay positive that the arrow went through all meat, and he may survive. I hate to think I wounded an animal I can not harvest... My question is why is my 20 yard pin when shooting targets perfect, but when elevated its high?
Well I have been feeding, trophy rock, and swapping memories cards since season closed last year. A lot of deer, and I mean a lot of deer cross in front of camera. Some days 30 or more. As more and more woods are torn down the deer are pushed tighter and tighter into smaller areas. Like I said the little area that I will be hunting is just a small section of woods that run parallel to a running creek where I think they like to water. Here are just a few.
Wanting to hear thoughts, this is the second round of picks. Have lots of foxes and racoons, and deer of course. Last week saw a blurry picture... thought it was a coyote. Then these pics a few weeks later!!!
Ok, so having a little problem... Got around to finally being ready to buy my first deer feeder, Want to buy a good one, that will last, second I have a small place where I am trying to set it up, need to keep the thrown feed in an area of about 6-10ft in front of the feeder, ideas?
So my wife and I have been moved into our new house for a few monthes, and I just got around to checking my trail camera I put out back and WOW what an awesome array of photos, here are just a few.
I have been out quite a bit, and after letting the small 4 pointer passed, nothing has even come close to in range. Still have BUCK FEVER, but have the blues at the same time... LOL
Trying to find the owner of a Multrie camera I found in the woods today, just thrown in a pile of leaves. I tried to call Multrie direct and they said there was no way to locate the owner even after giving them the serial number... Kinda bummed.... Thought I would give this a try. If anyone has lost one or had it stolen. Let me know where and if it matches up to where it was located would be more than happy to get it back to you.
Opening day went by yesterday with no production, but a very good morning early afternoon in the woods, in a small section of game land not far from the house. Was sitting for about 40 min after sun up and a small bodied 8 pointer walks into around 55-60 yards, needed him to come the next 10 or so yards to clear a pile of brush, he stopped and just starred me down for about 5 minutes. Just plain out busted me, took off with a leap of joy LOL! I guess that is why it is called hunting, not shopping. Still was hot and muggy yesterday can't wait for true fall to arrive.
Can this quiver hold mechanical broadheads? It is the stock one that came with my Brute X
Ok, here is my question. I have been trying to find or come up with a way to walk in with some kind of seat that goes around any tree and I can just sit on it, and a normal height, you know like 3 feet off the ground or whatever... Ideas?
Hey Guys,
Long time no talk, been busy getting supplies and new stuff ready for the upcoming season. I do have one question though, where should I take my deer to be processed? I leave near Falls Lake.
Why is there no fall season? Just curious. A lot of people I knew from up north harvest toms in spring, hens in fall. Ideas?
Hey Guys! Have not had much time to get on lately! But have bought myself a new bow as well as my wife! Got a Brute X and she got a Craze. Been shooting a lot! Having fun, still am not having any luck tracking down a place to look for some turkeys! Anyone want to help a man and wife out with an idea or 2, we dont get to spend a lot of time together with my work schedule and we would love to do this together! Anything helps!
Went to Mace on Saturday and this seemed like a great first bow. Anyone have any opinions or suggestions?
Went out today to try the new canoe set up, everything is running great. Few fish were seen jumping, as well as an beaver :) Went and walked a few game land sites had my eye on saw some scat, and trail. Other than that just a chilly breezy day on the water. No fish :( But pleasant morning with the wife
Went out shopping yesterday with the family, and started looking at CAMO, so many patterns and different things. I think I will definitely be layering, but what pattern guys?
Went walking through my first piece of Game Land, saw lots of tracks, and a nice doe! Thinking about investing in a few game cams! Any ideas? Thinking it might be a good idea to secure them some how?
Where can you go to even view a wild turkey lol! I am going to be buying a new bow soon, and turkey season is almost here and I have no idea where to even start!!!
Moved to NC last year, didnt get much time to fish as my wife was well into her pregnancy. Now my son is 4 months old, and the canoe is out with new trolling motor and seats (neither mounted yet) and getting excited to get on some water! Any helpful tips for a mountain trout fishermen at a new home lake? Anything will help!!!
Where was the picture taken, this looks a lot like the deer that I had a clean pass through on, and never found after blood trail disappeared...
Had it happen to me just the other day. Read my post under archery. Sorry Diane that's a bummer
Ya I sat a few hours last night nothing, and this morning jut 1 huge fawn, still a lil spotty.
Saw 2 does with 4 fawns and a small spike. Nothing since then... Which one of these 2 would you get?

Going to need some kind of picture to understand that one. On the other hand I've had a good couple days. Got a food saver with 9 rolls and about 50 bags and a bowl thing for $20.00 from a neighbor. Also got a 6' stainless prep table for $75.00. Really need the grinder now ;)
Going to pick up a foodsaver tonight after work. I think I will try to the cooler method, I like that. Do you quarter it then put it in? or whole? Gutted & Skinned? Whats the process? Now back to the grinder, here are a few that I have looked at:

Next, I have heard about mixing in beef fat at about a 20% ratio. So most of you arent doing this but rather the pork butt? At what ratio?
Havnt seen these boys since this picture as for some reason my camera stopped storing pics on the card, says it is taking pictures but nothing ends up on card...
Ya I am starting to believe/understand the bending at the waist thing. I tried to duplicate the problem sitting down out in the yard, but arrows fly straight, I think the problem occurs when aiming 'down' hence the bend in waist I suppose. Just to share here were the couple photos I took of the deer I harvested opening day.
Good luck, don't get the FEVER! LOL jk jk
That's awesome man, I have to agree that if I couldn't get around killing it, it is what it is. I have a 2 year old son, and a 8 DAY old boy. Been some sleepless nights that for sure. Lil groggy still... LOL
Ya I looked again for a while last night... Still no sign... Guess I am going to have to just move on, and try to learn from it. I couldnt shake the 'sick to my stomach' feeling for hours. Still not completely over it. On to my next questions. I took my first deer to be processed... $85.00 + a 45min - 1 way trip to the location from home... Starting to really consider doing this myself. I think with your guys help with what equipment, and technique, thoughts, experiences. I might be able to accomplish. What would be the 'MUST HAVES' to process, and what is your normal process?
That 8 looks like similar to one that I have been watching. Just a tall, typical 8. I like it.
LOL
Just checked another card
Super excited to make some time and get back out in the woods! GT sending you an email.
After you suggested it, I have tried to locate a version in hardback, and all I come across is very expensive versions. Why is this? Am I not looking in the right places lol?
Ya I was thinking about that, on the other hand I would set them right at sun down, and trip them in the morning before I leave for work, at least this way they are only set at night, and that is the only time the camera spots them.
I need some details on what to get/how to go about getting this done. Would love to get him mounted as well as out of here, my 16 month old son and dogs play right here.
Appreciate this, as a durham county resident.
Wife wants him, 1 way or the other. I never see him in the day time hours. Only late. Ideas?
That is what I call a quality deer, I love that look right there!
