First time I have seen this guy. He looks to have some age on him. Anyone care to put an age on him? I'm thinking at least 3.5
Been seeing this deer since June on cam. Halifax county.
Couple of descent bucks on the salt block.
What kind of scent control do you use?
I would really like to see a reduction in the # of buck tags in the eastern part of the state. Maybe just maybe more hunters would start taking out some of the doe population and letting smaller bucks walk. Wildlife biologist told me that the ratio is so far out of hand that it would take 4 seasons of just killing does to get it even. Yes 4 seasons of just doe kills and no buck kills. Just look at the harvest #'s of states like Ohio and Texas.
You go girl!
You are a bad man to get that skunk out that soon. I had one a few months back and I had to let it sit for a few days and it was still potent. If you have never smelled one you can't appreciate what it's like.
I've been telling the boys that any day now the state record will be broken after seeing the huge bucks coming out of the central part of the state. Hope everyone had a great Xmas and have a good New Years.
I didn't personally see this beast but I know this guy and he is a straight shooter and takes his hunting very serious.
Been doing good, getting anxious for Sept 9th
I was tempted to buy a trophy rock from Tractor Supply last season but after reading the contents on the package and seeing that it is 98% salt I decided to get a mineral block from Southern States that contains the same minerals and is a whole lot cheaper. It really looks like the rock is just a chiseled mineral block that is marketed for the deer hunters.
Not trying to jump on another subject entirely but is there any proof of coyotes being released? I just read an article on this and they have documented coyotes killed in 1941 on the east coast of the U.S. Also was he referring to western part of the state having more agriculture? Seems like it would be pretty difficult to farm in the mountains.
How often do you freshen up your set with scent/attractant?
What kind of trap are you using? I have a foot trap I'm going to put out soon. Tractor Supply has a large cage style coyote trap similar to a coon trap but not sure how they will come around it. I would rather use the live cage trap if it works just to avoid having to release stray dogs from a foot trap.
I agree NC is producing some nice bucks, mainly in the central part of the state and I believe that the 2 buck limit has a lot to do with this. I hunt in the eastern part of NC and hope that someday soon all parts of NC will be limited to 2 bucks per season.
What county was this brute killed in?
I started using the climbing sticks last year and used screw in steps on my 2nd lock on stand this year. I thought I would die from heat exhaustion before I finished screwing them in during the 95 degree weather. Finding out my stand needed to be moved for a better view I went and bought another set of climbing sticks. They are a lot easier and safer than steps. Now the only thing I'll use steps for is to hang my bow or bag on. Once you use them you will not look back.
