My son Jackson harvested this 11 pointer his biggest buck to date. On November 16 at 3:45pm with 20 mph wind gusts this buck walked in casually looking for does. Jackson did a fantastic job of keeping his sights on the deer and waiting for almost 10 mins for this deer to present a broadside shot. Once the deer made a turn and gave his left shoulder BOOM! The shot was about 50 yards and after a quick 40 yard blood trail through some pines we found him. The buck was killed with a 300 blackout using Winchester XP 150 grain in Orange County.

On Saturday Sept 30 my son Jackson shot his first deer. Around 630pm that evening we had a 6 pointer and a doe come to the cornpile about 20 yards from our ground blind. Jackson was able to maneuver the crossbow on the stand it was on and get the buck in the scope. After I made him reassure me 3 times he had it placed behind the shoulder and I whispered when your ready shoot. He immediately pulled the trigger and I heard the bolt hit the deer. The buck jumped and ran off and out of sight. After a few minutes of celebrating and Jackson running through all the emotions we went to look for the bolt. We found it laying just beyond where the buck was standing. I could tell that the shot was back because the bolt had hair meat and a gut smell. My trailcam was still running and pointing where the buck was standing. After reviewing the pics Jackson showed me where he was aiming on the deer. He was right it was behind the shoulder but the deer was quartering more than I thought so he was hit in the gut. Luckily the temps Saturday night got into the 40's so I had to teach him 'when in doubt back out'. Sunday morning we went back out and found blood about 60 yards from where the shot was. The trail quickly disappeared and I didnt want to risk not finding the deer. I called Country Boy Blood Tracking. Without a doubt we probably would not have found that deer without Kurt and his dog Mac. My son had a blast watching the dog work and was beyond happy when his buck was found!

I shot this bird on Monday at 7:45am after over an hour of gobbling. I knew at least 2 birds were roosting in the area from hearing the gobbles opening morning. I got closer to the roost monday morning and at 6:20 am they gobbled at an owl hooting. I sat down and got ready expecting it to be a quick hunt. I called two soft yelps that got quick gobbles back. After probably 30 gobbles i saw the two birds fly from the roost about 100 yards away. They continued gobbling at every sound made while walking farther away. Every call i made they cut me off but just wouldn't come in. Around 7:15 i heard a hen start yelping at the gobbles which caused more turkey activity then i have ever witnessed. She yelped they gobbled every 2 minutes. They finally started back my way talking up a storm. I watched them walk by me at 80 yards with the hen yelping away being followed by 4 gobblers. I knew i had nothing to lose as they contined walking away so i grabbed my box call and yelped as loud as i could. The hen immediately cut me off and we began arguing loudly with yelps. She then ran straight to me and stopped 15 feet in front of me looking and yelping. While trying to control the shakes i heard crashing through the leafs and the 4 toms were trotting behind her strutting, gobbling and sparring each other after what felt like an eternity which was only actually 2-3 minutes one of the strutters finally cleared some trees and presented a 40 yard shot. I placed the red dot on his bright white head and let the 5 shot turkey load fly. The shot knocked him down but he tried to run off luckily i wasnt far behind him and the second shot laid him out. He weighed 20lbs had an 11in beard with 1 1/8 spurs. Best morning ever in the turkey woods.

On April 18 I was able to harvest a nice Tom with a 10 inch beard and a little over 1 inch spurs. I was familiar with this bird because my dad and I got in him Saturday morning. He was very vocal and gobbling like crazy at every crow that 'cawed' that morning. We snuck in the woods and began calling to him which got a gobble each time. Once he flew down he gobbled several more times and then just got silent. I learned the hard way that the small broken rusty old barb wire fence running through the woods would ruin a good hunt.

Well I knew where he would be so I went back Monday morning. Just like before he began gobbling so I made a dash for the woods he was roosting in. This time I snuck as close as I could, probably 70 yards from his roost. Learning from mistake Saturday morning I sat on other side of an old fence that ran through the woods. I knew I was close to him so I only did a few soft purrs and one soft yelp. He gobbled at those and finally flew down about 20 mins later. When he flew down I saw him land about 60 yards away and he immediately began strutting. After a brief show he made his way to within 30 yards. As soon as his head cleared some small trees I put my green high vis sight on it and BOOM! He dropped in his tracks. My two future turkey hunters thought it was the coolest thing ever.

On November 6, 2015 I had the best day in woods I have ever had! I was fortunate enough to shoot the larger deer first thing this morning. He came strolling through a oak bottom and ended up standing 40 yards in front of me while I was busy looking at the news on my phone. Luckily I looked up and almost dropped my phone and gun. I quickly shoved my phone in my pocket and raised my gun. I knew he had nice antlers so I just focused on the front shoulder. As soon as he gave me a clear quartering shot I let the ole smoke eat! He ran about 30 yards then his batteries ran out! Once I got up to him I realized he was the big buck I had just recently got on my trail camera. Since it was early and my dad was in his stand I decided to climb back up and sit longer. Well I was back on my phone texting friends and family about my harvest when I looked out towards a grown up field and saw another nice buck step out. He walked across the field edge and worked a scrape about 70 yards from me. I gave him a couple grunts and after he freshened up his scrape he came my direction. I wasn't going to wait long so as soon as he stepped in the woods I had a 50 yard broadside shot and again the ole smoke pole ate! He dropped in his tracks and I was absolutely in shock about the morning I was having.

I shot this buck on Nov. 11 at about 730 am. This buck came in down wind of me from a place I would not have guessed a deer would be coming from. I was able to stand turn around and get a good 60 yard shot on him while he was walking through some thick cedar trees.

On Saturday November 8, 2014 at about 830 am my dad shot this buck while the buck was traveling to bed down in a cutover. He made about a 60 yard shot and the buck only ran about 40 yards. This was his first hunt of the season.

I shot this buck last week while hunting in SW PA with one of my buddies...19 in wide 9 point. Ive been hunting up there for 6 years now and I have been fortunate enough to kill a few nice bucks, this one being the best. I shot him on a a two person man drive. The area is hunted very heavy and man drives are a very common way of filing tags. This buck ran out at about 80 yards and was shot at about 50 while running through a pretty stand of woods next to a cut corn field. I think total 10 deer were pushed out on that drive. I know its not a NC deer but I am proud of him none the less!! Good Luck the rest of the season!!

Hey everyone this is a tragic reminder of what could go wrong while trying to enjoy one of lifes greatest outdoor experiences. I just started wearing one last year I will not climb into stand without it now. I have hunted since I was 12 and never wore one before.I consider myself lucky without having an accident so far and now its time to be proactive in avoiding one. I shot this 10 pt this morning while he was eating on some acorns.

I shot this 10 pt this morning in northern Orange Co. He came in at first light this morning eating on acorns. I was hunting a large oak grove in a big block of woods surrounded by either fields or cutover. The wind was out of the N to NE and perfect for this spot. I knew bucks should be traveling this block of woods looking for does near the cutover. After he milled around for about 5 minutes he walked out from around some small scrub trees and gave me about a 40-45 yard shot. His tarsals were pretty dark and stinky so it appears things are warming up for the rut!

Has anyone used regular scent away clothes wash or similar brands in a high efficiency washing machine?? If so did it work ok or were there any problems?? The wife wont let me wash my hunting clothes unitl I figure out if its ok..lol

I shot this buck this morning while he was crossing a cut-over. He came from a creek bed where some trees are still standing and where Ive found some nice rubs. He walked within 30 yards and I dropped him with my 30/30. Pictured with me is my future hunting buddy Jackson!

well my season has been pretty awesome so far. I have gotten my second 8pt in two weeks. This guy came walking from a creek bed and across a cutover this morning. He came to about 30 yards away and lost the battle with my 30/30. The best part is being able to have my son in the picture with me. He just turned one a couple weeks ago and I bought him his lifetime hunting and fishing license. I cant wait til he is the celebrating his kill!!
