  • Most men and women that hunt are honest, responsible hunters. However there are a small number of folks that give hunters a bad name. I don't know if the person or persons that stole my ladder stand and tripod feeder read these post but if by chance you do I have a message for you. You have some real nerve to trespass on private property and steal. Maybe you didn't see the posted signs? I don't know your name but I do know were you hunt. It would be in your best intrest to return my property immediately.

My 12 year old son Seth bagged this big 8 pointer in Caswell county on Nov 14th. He dropped this big boy with his remington 700 .243 at 4:20pm about 100 yards from his stand. This hunt was special for him it was his first time in the stand by himself. He saw a couple does come in the field then about 10mins later this big boy came in looking for the does. He told me he passed up a smaller buck earlier waiting on a big one he says. Well looks like his patience paid off. The buck was 21in inside and was rough scored at 140. I'll never forget hearing him shoot and then my phone vibrating. I answered and he said dad big buck down! big buck down! I shot a monster. I'm very proud of him. His last nice buck was in Dec 2007 a 19in inside 6 pointer taken at 190 yards. It was the last time he and my dad hunted together. I'm sure he was looking down from heaven and enjoying every minute of this hunt.

I used to rabbit hunt some with my dad, grandfather and their friends. I've never seen anyone kill that many rabbits in one day. We might kill 5-6 a day. They didn't kill many rabbits for them it was always more about listening to the dogs run. Thats alot of rabbits.

I'm not sure but I do know the X bolt is a newer version. I've had my A-bolt for 15 years. One of my buddies bought a X bolt in .308 last year he loves it. We compared mine to his I couldn't tell any difference except his is .308 and mine is .270. Both guns shoot good, 1 in group @ 100 yards not a problem.

I like the comment teach them to be moral hunters. Teaching them that will carry over into there day to day life as well. My 12yr old son Seth is alot more mature and responsible than most of his friends that don't hunt. Of course my wifes anti hunting anti gun PhD family members would disagree they claim our hunting and martial arts promote violence. I'm just glad I'm not that stupid. By the way good luck I hope he gets his deer.

I could never part with my Browning A-bolt .270 it's claimed the lives of a few white tales over the years. Looks like most of these guys shoot some nice guns. I've had good experience with the Ruger and the Remington as well. I may up grade to a Leupold scope next year.

A comment titled: I hate trespassers! in response to a report titled: uninvited

I hate guys like that! Thats how people get killed hunting. When your on private land you don't expect somebody to hunt where your at. It's not safe for you or him, you don't know where each other are very dangerous. Thieves and trespassers don't think about those things their too stupid. Guys like that give us honest hunters a bad name. I hate he ran your deer off. I hope you catch him I'm sure you'll educate him on where the property line is. Good luck.

The farmer that lets me hunt his property is a former law enforcment officer. He talked to his neighbor that owns the adjacent property. We're sure thats where the scum bag hunts. The message has been delivered that he better return my stuff before I have to get it myself,it will not be good for him if he doesn't take the warning. I HATE A THIEF!

Hey Paul and Hillbilly I agree with you guys. The memories I have of hunting with dad and my grandpa are pricless. I've had more fun the last four years hunting with my son than when I killed the biggest buck of my life 6 years ago. I didn't fire a shot for 4 years let my boy do all the shooting. Now he's in the stand by himself and he's my main hunting partner. I know some of guys saw the monster he killed so I have some catching up to do no way I could quit hunting.

Don't give up man. I've been frustrated more than one time but couldn't imagine not hunting. I've had a dry season or two if you hunt long enough your going to have them. Get out there and enjoy what god has created for us.

Looks like that .223 did the job. I agree it's a good round to get the little hunters started. When he's ready take a look at the remington .243 with the youth stock. I bought one for my son when he was 9 he's taken several deer with it.
