So I have read that we are having a youth turkey season this year. I am unclear if this is only on private land or does this include all lands ( state and fed ) that have a season. IE - Caswell County Game Lands. Can someone please clarify.
I made a lamp out of a glass block and painted Brownings Buckmark on it. I entered it into Browning's Show us Your Buckmark contest. I need you votes guys. With three young boys winning a couple of firearms would surely lighten the burden of purchasing firearms. Go to the link and vote ( VOTE OFTEN ) http://www.browning.com/buckmark/item.asp?id=4465
Well I finally took a deer with the bow. decided to take out one of the older bucks that just didn't have a rack worth braging about. these scrub bucks have been eating up everything in the woods. at twenty yards and quartering away, I let the stick fly and heard the famous 'thwack'. I saw the arrow make good contact but a little high and back. the deer dropped his head and his belly hit the ground all the while breaking the sound barier as he left. I waited waited for what seemed an eternity (30 min) before getting down from the stand. I recovered my arrow and was elated that it was covered from tip to nock with blood. I searched and searched for a blood trail with the aide of a flashlight to no avail. I backed out and came back in at daylight. I found my first bow kill about 20 ft from where I gave up the evening before. unfortunately the coyotes found him during the night. don't think there was an orphus, joint or muscle on my buck that had not been half eaten. I shot this buck for the meat but I guess I will have to settle for the memory. the memories are't physically filling but they sure taste bitter sweet.
what is your opinion on taking a doe that has young ones with her?
I got a trail cam as a Christmas present from my wife. been getting decent photos so far; except when the whole camera was incased in ice. I was hoping to get a pic or two of the big bucks that I was seeing just before bow season opened but nothing yet. haven't seen the three freaks from the summer months since the season opened. I did however get a bunch of pics of these two boys and one other prospect. I see this 8 on a regular basis. the future seasons look good. now if they would just stay around.
Well, I finally made it out for the first time time season. that thing called work and having a family has put play time on hold. I landed a place just down the street from my house to bow hunt after having to trek out to public lands for the last few years. saw some great deer over the summer. had four does walk within ten feet of my brush blind. they hung out for about 45 min. I had to throw a stick over them to get them to move on so I could get up and leave. I had almost forgotten what it was like to see multiple deer in the woods much less having the mind set to pass on multiple deer. take time to enjoy the things that God has blessed us with and be safe.
(no trail cam... maybe santa will read and take a hint)
