  • Hey can anyone help me figure out when the acorns drop around Butner? Im trying to figure out the best time to take a few days to bowhunt there.I usually hunt muzzleloader season there and by then all the acorns are on the ground and largely gone. The NCBA has a hunt there each year and i kinda want to get up there before that to have the best chance at gettin on the deer before they get any pressure. Thanks in advance for yalls help i know we have a lot of knowledgable people on here so i look forward to hearing what ya got to say on this. thanks

so a couple weeks ago i put my cuddeback capture on a tree in the bottom where my stand is to take inventory for next season> when i went get it back, it was under water! now the camera was 5 feet in the tree so you can imagine how deep it was> the camera was full of water so im thinkin well this one is fried> i took it home and took it apart and set it on the heater vent for two hrs. and believe it or not, it works like a brand new one. i am now sold on these cuddebacks for their good pics and absolute toughness> just figured id share that with you guys>

hey guys i know its not a report but i need some help. what i need to know is this: are the lacrosse alpha burly and comparable boots snake bite proof at all? i know the website isnt gonna make any claim of there effectiveness for liability. but do any of you guys have any first hand experience with this or valuable opinions> i got plenty of copperheads and water mocs and a few rattlesnake where i hunt and i need some of these boots for scent control while deer hunting and im trying to figure out if im gonna have to buy snake boots and some alphaburlys or if i can get away with just the alphaburlys. thanks for yalls help

does anyone know if the proposed season changes to almost get rid of bow and muzzleloader seasons is just talk or is it a real possibility? i heard at a hunting camp that it was a done deal but we all know how rumors go. i think this change would be a huge mistake as we are just now starting to see the results of the two buck limit with the current season types and dates. is there anything we can do to stop this if we all feel the same about it, or is it like everything else and in the governments hands? let me know what you guys know and how you feel about it.

You are exactly right this place is as sorry as any ive ever known.Used to be decent but when the honest folks got tired of being told to rip people off so much they couldnt sleep at night they left. Bad part is the owner , Tom knows what goes on . I really hope word gets out more and more everyday this outfit is the perfect example of what every hunter fears when you book a hunt and give up your hard earned money. A plain scam artist rip off.

A comment titled: def not a cane break in response to a report titled: May wanna watch for snakes!

hey guys for years i caught rattlesnakes and sold them to zoos till they made it illegal. you would be amazed how holding a snake with tongs or on a stick and reaching it out toward the camera will make it look huge. this snake looks about 4.5 to 5 feet max. yeah a big one no doubt but not a monster. the bottom pic has been around for a lot of years and was said to be killed on the grounds of a south georgia prison but you see it re appear every couple years saying its from somewhere else and was killed recently. point is if you see a canebreak over 4.5 ft or an eastern db over 5 youve really done something cause it can take over 30 years for them to get that big. and they only breed at best every two years so killing them for no reason is in my opinion a step in the direction of extinction for these snakes.i try to swerve around em on the road and stop and help em get across without being ranover. now i know yall might say im nuts but i hate to see anything ranover. that being said im ready for bow season to get here especially if we get some rain to make the corn grow. if not were headed for HIGH corn prices.

A comment titled: corn in response to a report titled: Deer Corn....NOT!

i talked to the people i get it from and its 18 a hundred now and she said with no rain it could be 25 by fall. its getting bad on deer hunters who have to work like us for a living.

A comment titled: hog trapping in response to a report titled: Need advice on hog trapping around bears.

in wnc the park service uses strong wire thats 1/4 inch diameter laid out in grids then welded together to make 4 x 4 inch squares for the sides and bottom and they leave the top out. they uses stake to hold the trap down and the bears climb right out the top and it dont hurt the trap. the thing that sucks is the bears get smart to this free meal with no harm coming to them and do it over and over again. just be VERY careful if you walk up on a sow or a cub cause this time of year is a bad time to run up on one for obvious reasons. good luck i hope this helps

hey gt thats a good lookin call. looks like its wrapped in a western diamondback with the jail house tail> pretty neat. i let a canebreak go when we were getting flooded here in sept after i measured it . it was 62 inches long and probably 35 years old. i hate to see an old critter like that die on the road so i help him off to the ditch.

A comment titled: thanks for the help in response to a report titled: snake boots help PLEASE

i definitely would not call you crazy. from the time i got my drivers license i caught rattlers and copperheads and sold them to a local zoo where im originally from in the mountains. i just never worried about it til i moved down here to the coast.they are more in certain areas in the mts. and here they tend to be more widespread seems to me. i think if the alphas will hold a copperhead theyll hold a cottonmouth. and like you said rattlers tend to retreat quickly if they can> i thank you for your help on this u just cant beat first hand experience> hey maybe you and me and ol viper can get together one day and fling an arrow at something. thanks again this is VERY helpful

P.S. thanks jeff too i was just looking for some reassurance practically speaking
