I was wondering if anybody else has had any 'problems' with people fishing off the banks directly beside boat ramps. This past Sunday I was coming back in to a landing on the Yadkin River in Rowan County and had to fight my way through a crowd of people that were fishing on the bank directly beside the landing just to get my boat loaded on the trailer. One of my friends came into the same landing later that day and caught one of there lines in his prop that was cast across the ramp. Fast forward a couple hours later and once again I was taking my boat out at another ramp closer to home here in Davie County and the new floating dock that the NCWRC had just completed for the use of lauchning and recovering boats was covered by more people, some fishing with rods, others with strings tied to cans and bottles. The ones with rods had them laying down on the dock hanging over the sides and looked at us like we were crazy for trying to pull a boat up to the dock. When we were within a couple feet of the dock I finally told them to get there rods or they were going to get broke, had that happened you could only imagine what the outcome could have been. Once again I had to fight my way through a crowd just to get up to my truck and to get my boat on the trailer. I am not trying to talk down to people fishing of the bank, I done it for years myself before buying a boat, and have done it since buying one, though not as often. I guess the real question is what do you think could be done about this, there is more than enough room for people to fish at most of the landings I use without having to crowd the ramp. Do you think the NCWRC could designate and enforce some sort of 'minimum' or 'reasonable' distance rule that would help.
This deer was killed on November 20 on private land in Davie County. Not a bad deer for this part of the state.
There are a good number of deer but there are almost as many hunters. I hunted down there religiously about 3 years ago and on the opening day of muzzleloading and could not look in any direction without seeing another hunter within 300 yds. of me. Bow season may be a little better but you also have to contend with people dove hunting on the fields the WRC plants for them. Also during rifle season it is 'introductory season' meaning you can only kill a doe on the last day. There are also a good number of turkeys but I have seen with my own eyes several groups of people set up on the same bird out in a several hundred acre field that borders the bottom of the gameland and divides it and the river. It should also be noted that it is a 3 day per week area.
The crappie have been biting very strong in the upper end of High Rock. Until the last cold front we had, we were having 100+ fish days. We normally had our limit of 10'+ fish in a couple of hours, and would continue fishing and cull out anything that were between 8' and 10'. Yesterday we caught around 50, 35 were keepers, with most pushing 2lbs.. Good luck.
A guy I work with came in with these very same pictures he had recieved in an e-mail last night at work and said a friend of his dads killed this deer in Monroe. I still call bs on this one.
Larger channel cats can take on a blueish tint during spawning season, but due to the lack of spots and the 'hump' at the transiton from head to body I would say a it's a blue cat.
