  • I've got a grudge match against another boat this weekend. I think the target fish is going to be either king or dolphin. We'll be fishing out of Morehead City in a 21' Scout. Any suggestions about where to go or what to use would be great.

I was thinking about just some live menhaden and/or cigar minnows w/ dusters. Any thoughts? Especially need some help on some general areas. Can't go too far out though, maybe Northwest Places or Big10/Lil10.

I've got the family down at Atlantic Beach this weekend. Has anyone heard of any bottom fish being caught?? If so, where and/or how. I normally don't do any bottom fishing, but thought it may be fun with the rest of the family. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Based on a chart I have, there should be a west slough buoy and an east slough buoy. I have been with some friends when we ran this route in a 23' contender. The approx coordinates based on my chart are:

west slough buoy loran: 27083.1 39656.1
east slough buoy loran: 27076.1 39676.2

Note, the chart says these are approximate b/c occasionally the markers get moved.

I've heard of plenty of stripers being caught around Plymouth. Personally, I've caught plenty of stripers across the sound in the Chowan River. I was on the lower Chowan bass fishing one day, and decided to take a few casts towards the tall bridge (I think it is a new Hwy 17 bridge). The stripers were killing anything I would give them. If there is plenty of bait in the Roanoke, the stripers will be there. They will make there way up the Roanoke to Weldon by some time in May.
