  • The white bass have finished their spawn. They are beginning to blitz the baitfish in 20 - 40 foot water. We've caught many on silver jerkbaits and shadraps. For a Lake Lure fishing excursion, this is the time to fish.

Can anyone tell me where to find the water temperature for the Cape Fear River at different locations. I am normally a saltwater guy but I need to learn how to catch some catfish to lower the 'fever' during these winter months. Thanks for your help.

The striper fishery on LKN may not be all the way back, but it's on its way. The new hybrids are doing great, with good topwater action many days. They can be caught deep on live bait or artificials when tehy are not near the surface. The stripers that remain are good size, for LKN, with 10-13…

This is a 17 lb 10 oz Blue we caught today out of High Rock. He was caught in the main river channel on the bottom. He bit a 6 inch whole shad. I have fished for years in High Rock and this is only the second one we've ever caught. The other one was 5 lb and we caught him on a jug. We caught 15…

With the plentiful bait that is stocked into Lake Lure, the fish grow fat. Moreover, they learn to school as a team by chasing the bait to the surface, crashing it, then picking off the loner baits that have been separated from the school. All this means top water action is hot on Lake Lure in…

I caught this slab on minnows in a private lake in Stanley, NC were I hunt. Guessing he weighed a little over 3 lbs.
Wow never caught one anywhere NEAR that big. Must have been a real thill - Great job catching it since they have such paper thin mouths. I'd have probably got so excited I'd have pulled the hook out of its mouth!!!

I put my boat in Boiling Springs Lakes ( near Southport, NC) yesterday. This is the first time I have been fishing there. I went late and didn't have much luck. I used the Alton Lennon boat ramp...not sure which lake this was since there are several. Does anyone have any tips or success stories…

Catfish are moving into shallow water; with the full moon in 10 days I expect that good numbers of catfish to be caught on Easter weekend. Some fish can still be found in deeper water working their way in shallow. Monday the 30th of March is the first day of the Big Fish Big Bucks derby that…

Hybrid Stripers are still very active. We caught 12 nice Hybrids along with Stripers, White Perch & Spotted Bass. Fish are feeding between 30-40ft and still striking Alabama Rigs. Hot locations are Mile Marker 7 & 13 running in the river channels. All fish were catch and release. Happy…

Just moved near Wilson. Fished the creeks and see large fish, (Bass, Bowfin, Cats..etc) but can't get them to hit anything....any suggestions??
For bass I would use a Rapala broke back minnow and for catfish I would use shad or bream heads.

Can anyone tell me what times of the year are best for fishing at Lake Jordan. I have fished mostly spring and gotten cats, crappie and bass. Just wondered what kind of fishing there is in other seasons. I don't have a boat so mainly fish from the shore or pier. Thanks for the info.

It was about 11:45 Saturday morning when I cut the belly out of a large gizzard shad. It took about fifteen minutes until he bit the bait. I missed the first time but got him a minute later and was up against the fight of my life. It lasted about five minutes and he didn't surface till about the…

Winter fishing is going very well at both Norman & James. On Norman, spotted bass, stripers, hybrids & cats are feeding aggressively on large schools of small shad & herring midway to the backs of major creeks in 20-50 ft of water. Match the hatch with live shad, herring or shiners…
