Ok I am new to the area I scouted alot this year in shelter saw some positive tracks but I still havent seen a deer not just hunting but in the past months leading up to the opening day havent even glimpsed one do you have to run dogs to have a chance or am I just not in the right areas any advice…

Croatan Forest Hound Hunts

Are there any groups/hunt clubs who use hounds on the public lands in the Croatan Forest or other gamelands around New Bern/Jacksonville? A buddy of mine and I are looking to join up and hunt with folks who use hounds. Would not mind helping out with dog food.

The 1987 forest plan, as amended, called for 10% Early Successional Habitat (ESH). Nantahala and Pisgah have less than 1% ESH today.

Well From Oct 14 2013-feb off and on I Ended Up Bagging 164 Squirrels. The last 3 Years Have been Really good squirrel hunting on Butner-falls and Jordan GL.

That's a lot of squirrel. I didn't do any squirrel hunting this season. My little hunting buddy moved to Raliegh,so my heart just wasn't in it. Maybe next season. Congrats to you though .

@ Daniel J, Ive Been Hunting Butner-falls For years and Have yet To See A Single Hog In All 3 Counties Of Butner-falls. Im Sure There is A Few around. Alot of Wild Dogs lol and a handful Of Coyotes. You Have a much better chance For hogs in The Mountains and Down East. Good Luck!!

Any body shot any big bucks out in the Francis Marion Forest this season (2012)? I had this guy come running out to me after blowing the doe bleat, he was a 5 1/2 year old 6 pointer weighing in at about 155-160 lbs.

Can anyone comment on the subject? It is a new WMA, in Laurens County, purchased by DNR during 2011. It has, almost 2 miles of river frontage. I can't wait to check it out. It would be great if someone that has been there already would share info/impressions of the place.

Just found out I got a permit for a bear hunt in December on the dare game lands. Does anyone know if there are a decent, hunt able number of bears on the tract? Not looking for specifics, just wondering if 10 years of applying was worth the wait.

Hey man I live over in Currituck and I hear the Bear Hunting is pretty good over there. A boy killed a 700 pounder last year near the landfill and I heard of numerous sighting at the trash dumps. Its pretty thick and swampy on gamelands. Are you still hunting or using hounds ?
