  • Cumberland County, NC:

This past weekend I was reminded of the undervalued and usually neglected importance of the three S's. Three simple rules that I was taught we I started hunting years ago when chasing the eastern turkey. STILL, SOFT & STAY.

    About 8 month prior…

Yesterday my ten year old son Tucker bagged his first gobbler. We live in Warren County and he has been hunting for a few seasons now, but has never been able to get on a bird. Yesterday after school, his step dad asked him if he wanted to go across the farm and see if they could scout out any…

Sunday morning May 6th in the northern part of Harnett County was bittersweet for the husband and wife team of Al and Tammy Truelove. There was a hen with a beard they had been watching for the last 11 or 12 years. She was always on camera, always the first the disappear during breeding season and…

Rainger Bolden's first Tom with his dad in Sardinia SC.

Really thick beard and 1.25' spurs. The actual thickest part of the beard is 10.5 inches but some strands reach to 11. Came in quiet trailing a lone hen and gave me a shot at 45 yards. A Winchester Longbeard 3.5 #6 took him down right in his tracks. Got him in Martin County on 4-14-2018 at 9am.

I'm a firm believer that if you put in enough time in the turkey woods, even though you'll go home most of the time scratching your head or muttering under your breath about the one that got away, every once in a while, you'll kill a bird you didn't deserve to…

On my first real attempt to turkey hunt I bagged a nice gobbler after a two hour talk and stalk. After calling in one bird shortly after I arrived but not seeing it, I moved to the opposite end of the property and called and two gobblers responded. For about the next two hours we talked back and…

This is my third season hunting turkey in Nc and the first year I though I was lucky when on the first trip out me and my buddy both got one within 30 mins of being out. Last year didn't hear or see a thing. This year same thing as the first year something you never would think happened once,…

I shot this bird on Monday at 7:45am after over an hour of gobbling. I knew at least 2 birds were roosting in the area from hearing the gobbles opening morning. I got closer to the roost monday morning and at 6:20 am they gobbled at an owl hooting. I sat down and got ready expecting it to be a…

One week after my son shot his first ever turkey, we end up doubling on open day. That morning one hen came out in the field followed by 3 toms, they finally made there way up to our decoys. The rest is history. One hunt we will never forget!

Grace Silver killed her first turkey on the opening morning of the youth season in western North Carolina. The bird weighed over 20lbs and had a 9.5' beard and 1' spurs. Grace shot the turkey at 25 yards with her muddy girl camo Mossberg 20 gauge.
Here is Grace with her bird again. This is her favorite picture.

This bird was taken by this youth hunter south of Garland off the South River. This was the first turkey harvest for this young hunter who hunted this tom for 3 days before getting him into range. This bird has been seen for 2 years by the landowners.
We have seen several around the Pitt co. Green co. Area. Some all white some speckled. I'm surprised that they survived in the wild to get breeding age. They sure stand out even alone.

Looks pretty funky - GT might have some idea what that's caused by. Let us know what the biologist says.
Congrats on the bird - 1 7/8 spurs is awesome. Too bad about the beard, I bet he'd of had a rope.
