Last year, 2018, I passed this buck several times as I had just killed a buck that made the state record book. I could tell he was young and had a lot of potential. Fast forward to August 2019, I checked the trail camera for the first time and I couldn?t believe how much he blew up. He went from 120? to mid 140s. I started hunting him exclusively. I went down the weekend of September 27-29th. There was a lot of deer movement that weekend. I passed on a good 8pt that Friday morning. Then decided to check the camera later, and the beast was no where to be found. My guess was he had left the pines to go eat acorns at the neighbors, but I decided to keep hunting that same stand. Saturday evening comes and I had some stuff come up and didn?t get in the stand until 6:30. Around 7 pm it was like a light switch went off and deer started coming from everywhere, but none to get me excited. Around 7:30 I looked down at my feet thinking I made a bad choice hunting here for the third time that weekend, but then I looked up and I could see a huge bodied deer in the road about 170yds away. I quickly picked up my rifle and realized it was him and squeezed the trigger. Live weight was 204.5lbs and grossed 146 2/8. Biggest deer of my life. Thought it would be hard to top the one from last year but I did.
