Last year I took my son Levi hunting in a blind I had set up not far from my house. Not long after getting there we had a doe come within 10 yards of us. He was so excited. Being 4 years old he couldnt hold his excitement in and couldnt set still and the doe spooked. After that he told me he wonted to kill a deer when he turned 5. On September 18 my little boy turned 5, 4 days before youth day, and he was ready. The rifle I had for him was a little too big for him to shoot by himself so we practiced shooting together and with my help he could hit bulls eye. Youth afternoon in Union county we got setup in a blind on the edge of a bean field 200 yards from our house. At 6:00pm we had a nice 8 point come out then spooked at something and ran off. About 15 minutes later here he came back and right when Levi was about to pull the trigger he spooked again. You can only imagine the disappointment in his eyes.He was so upset. About 30 minutes later I saw something coming into field, I whispered get your earmuffs on and he saw the buck step out. I could see his smile out the corner of my eye it was a country mile wide I couldnt help but smile with him. I picked up the gun and we got ready. I whispered are you ready, he nodded yes. I said when you are ready take the shot. He squeezed the trigger and I knew he made a good shot. He never took his eyes off that deer until it hit the ground he was so excited. Ive killed a couple nice bucks but this was the best hunt Ive ever been on and its something Levi and I will remember for the rest of our lives.
