On my first real attempt to turkey hunt I bagged a nice gobbler after a two hour talk and stalk. After calling in one bird shortly after I arrived but not seeing it, I moved to the opposite end of the property and called and two gobblers responded. For about the next two hours we talked back and forth but they would not move so I stared to flank and work my way closer expecting them to come down from the hill at some point. Finally, after working as close as I dared, I saw a hen leading two gobblers down the hill. The hen crossed the creek and fed right toward me and I had no real cover. The two gobblers worked left behind an old stone foundation. I reset on the foundation end but the hen turned and walked quickly away clucking so I was busted. The toms turned to follow. The jake first came out slowly then the big tom. I dropped the tom with a load of #5 from my 20 gauge at about 30 yards. He had a 10' beard and 1 1/4' spurs.
