  • Ashley Wins FLW Tour Majors on Lake Hartwell

Casey Ashley from Donalds loves to sing as much as he loves to fish, and his favorite song right now is “This Magic Moment.” Ashley won the FLW Tour Majors on Lake Hartwell and netted $100,000 for his effort.

It was a magic week for Ashley starting out on Day 1 with 21-7 pounds and a fifteen-pound plus bag every day of the tournament. Ashley came into Day 4 with almost a ten pound lead, and he did not disappoint the crowd.

Ashley weighed in 15-10 pounds (5) on the last day for a four-day total of 68-5 pounds. Ashley’s weight beat second place finisher Andy Morgan from Dayton, TN by almost 12 ˝ pounds.

Day 4 started out with Ashley catching fish on the lower end of Lake Hartwell. By 9:40 a.m. Ashley had his five-fish limit, and by 10:00 a.m. he was culling fish. Ashley said.” I ended up catching my 4-pounder where I’d been fishing all week. When I got the big one, I knew it was game over.”

Ashley flipped, pitched, and skipped jigs and shaky head rigs around docks with brush piles from 25-40 feet deep. Ashley worked the baits slowly and methodically for the ten bass that he caught, and ended up with two largemouth and three spotted bass.

All Ashley’s fish were caught this week on a green pumpkin-colored ˝-ounce Shooter Lures hand-tied jig with a Zoom Super Chunk Jr. trailer and 1/8 or 1/16 ounce shaky-head rigs with a watermelon candy- or gourd green-colored Zoom Finesse Worm.

Ashley has a big year still awaiting him because not only is he fishing the FLW Majors, but also the Bassmaster Elite Series. Ashley stated that he hopes to make it to the Forrest L. Wood Cup on Lake Murray in August.

Anthony Gagliardi from Prosperity was the only other South Carolina pro to finish in the top ten. Gagliardi finished seventh with 9-13 pounds on Day 4 for a four–day total of 43-15 pounds.

The other top 10 pros finished: 2nd: Andy Morgan, Dayton, Tenn., 20 bass, 53-13 pounds; 3rd: Clent Davis, Montevallo, Ala., 19 bass, 50-9 pounds; 4th: Cody Meyer, Auburn, Calif., 19 bass, 49-14 pounds; 5th: John Cox, Debary, Fla., 16 bass, 48-14 pounds; 6th: Brett Hite, Phoenix, Ariz., 18 bass, 46-14 pounds; 8th: Dan Morehead, Paducah, Ky., 13 bass, 43-14 pounds; 9th: Ryan Davidson, Huntington, W. Va., 16 bass, 41-4 pounds; 10th: Charlie Ingram, Centerville, Tenn., 16 bass, 40-2 pounds.
