  • Big Fish at Striper Kings Tournament

Jim Reese of Greenville proudly displays his big fish at the Striper Kings of Greenville Tournament that was held on Lake Hartwell Saturday.

Reese’s striper weighed 25.6 pounds and with a total team weight of 55 pounds, his fishing partners, son Scotty Reese and Chris Childs also from Greenville, took the top places to win the tournament.

The team fished up and down Six and Twenty Creek all day while pulling planer boards with live blueback herring. Reese said that he caught the big striper right after the rain stopped.

Many of the tournament anglers were also fishing the creeks, and they talked about it being a tough day of fishing. Besides being a cold, wet, and nasty day, the big bites were hard to come by.

One team stated that they followed a school of stripers near Fair Play Beach, but they only caught one small striper, and they were fishing twelve rods. “The birds were working, and the fish were schooling on top like crazy, but they just wouldn’t hit.”

Anglers agreed that the stripers were mainly in the mouths of the creeks and that the fish were hitting live blueback herring while pulling planer boards.
