  • Bream Still Hot at Santee

Despite the cooler mornings, nights, and evenings, the bream fishing on the Santee Cooper lakes is still hot. The only difference is that experienced bream anglers are starting later in the day.

'We like to let the sun get up and begin warming the water because when the mornings are as cool as they have been, the bream won't bite until a little later in the day anyway,' said Borden angler Allen Moore, who has been catching bluegills on crickets suspended under slip corks, and shellcrackers on nightcrawlers. He fishes the nightcrawlers on a bottom rig.

'Now is the time to get these fish before the weather gets too cold and they shut down,' said Moore.
