Birthday Buck

Well, Today Is My Birthday So I Had The Day Off. Went hunting At My Favorite Spot On Butner-falls. Got In The Tree at 4:45am got set up and relaxed ready for an all Day Hunting. I Could here deer moving around 5:15am thats why im in the tree that Early so they dont Bust Me Walking to my Tree. Just over amiles walk. So Sitting Watching squirrels around 7:45am saw 3 little bucks they came and worked my Mock Scrapes, but they where't Shooters Around 10 i had to use the urinal so i stood up using the bathroom when i looked off to my Left i got a big shock, it was 2 shooter bucks around 100 yards walking my way. lol i got so exicted that i spilled pee all over my treestand seat(none hit the ground Thank God) So I Slowly Grabbed my Ruger M77 mark2 Target in .270cal shooting Federal Fusion ammo 150grain Boattails. Sat Back down Slowly Raised my gun and by this time they where 50 Yards away down wind and not nervus, ( I Was lol) Put the crosshairs on the buck squeezed The Trigger The buck went down. he didnt move at all. What a great Hunt!1 He's not a monster But a nice gameland Buck.

@Jager And Viper, Thanks For The Birthday Wish!! Im Really Happy With This Buck, He's First Buck of The Season. The Good News Is, He Was Walking With another 8 or 9 Point Almost As Big. Im Going to Go Again Tomorrow And See If I Can pull Some magic and get the other Buck. Ive got one tag left. Buck or Doe. The Deer Weighed 168lbs no dressed. the drag like to have killed me, but id do it again in a heartbeat.

Good Luck tomorrow......I'll be checking in from work. I'm getting my priorites in order now that the freezer is filling up. I shoot two cull buck this year so I'm saving my last two buck tags for Thanksgiving and Christmas.....lol!

@ Fairchase Thanks Buddy, Im Not That Good Of A Deer Hunter, But i sure try, and sometimes i do Well. Lol Maybe The pee Covererd my scent lol who knows, im Like You, Whatever Works. I Was Shocked to see This Buck, But the cool thing about not being able to use trailcams (someone would steal them) and not be able to bait on gameland is you never know what deer your going to see, that adds to the wishful Thinking. Happy Birthday and Nice Buck! It seems like you are an expert of the gamelands! I was hoping you could share some advice? We just moved here last year and Ive just started to hunt Butner-Falls. It is gorgeous land, but I sure am having trouble finding deer! Ive been hunting off of Old Oxford and Red Mill. Was wondering if you had any scouting advice or where to start! @Mikeblan Howdy Mike, Welcome To The Area. Thanks For The Birthday Wish And The Kinds Words. Let Me Say This, Im Far From Being A Gameland Expert. Ive Only Been Hunting Gameland Since 2007. This Is One Of My Better Seasons! I Average 4 To 5 Deer a Season, but Not Normaly This Fast. There Are Tons Of Hunters On Butner-falls And Jordan Every year That Tag Out And also Score Big Bucks Every Year. Cant give out any info in a public Forum about a certain Area Of Gameland, But I Can Give You Some Tips That Help Me. Tip#1 Scouting has much as possible without leaving to much scent in the area, find and hunt Cover.#2 If You Dont Have a Boat to access Out of The way Places Dont walk to a spot accessable By Boat, because Hunters who do go to there hunting spot by boat will be all over the lake shore wood Line. Hunt Durning The week Day. If You can hunt durning The weekday, You'll Stand a much better Chance At Seeing Deer, Then The Weekend although, depends on where Your Hunting. The Redmill rd/ and Oxford Hwy# Tracs Have Moderate To Good Deer#'S More Does Then Bucks, They Get Slammed With Hunters On The Weekend. Have alot of patence, Deer get Pushed hard durning Muzzleloader and Gun Season, so they tend to be alitte Shell Shocked. Also Hunting an Area With Little to no Deer Signs Can Pay off Great. Where im hunting at now You Would Never Know That Deer Ever Come Though There. The reasoning Is Simple Pressured Deer Want to go to a safe Place, no deer sign Means no hunters in turn means lots of Happy deer which = one very lucky Hunter lol. Sorry, I Cant Be To Much of Help, im still learning all the do's and dont's of Gameland im getting better every year. Just got to put in alot of time and just sit back and learn from experience. @mike, Your Welcome Mike, sorry i couldnt help More, It's Best just to scout some Places out And go with your gut Feeling. I Like to take a hunting day and just drive around and see how many trucks are parked at certain Tracs, and also check the boat ramp for hunters, There will be alot of duck Hunters at The Boat Ramps myself included so also keep That In Mind. The Month Of Dec Can Be Really Good. Must Of The Hunters From The Mountains And The East Have Came and Went, so Dec It's Mainly Just Us Local Hunters That Are Hunting 3 Or 4 Days Aweek. All The Compotiation Goes From 15 Hunters for every one Deer, to 5 Deer for every one Hunter. Jordan Is Great Too, but holds more hunters For The whole Season do to the fact That Jordan Is A Maxium Gun Season Either Sex All Season. Butner-falls is now a moderate gun Season Does can be taken first 6 days and Last 6 Days. And on The Arcery only tracts Bucks And does can be taken all season, but bow or crossbow only.

@NCduckcommander, Thanks Brother, For The Comments, Im Really Happy With This Buck!! @Dianne And Gt. Thank Ya'll So Much For The Really Nice Comments And Birthday Wishes!! Means Alot To Me!! I Do Try Really Hard And Hunt alot. Ive Learned Alot of Tricks And Tools On Gameland The Past Few years. I Would Never Hunt On Sat Do To The Fact That I Was Always over come by Other Hunters. But Ive Figured Out Away To Setup in a Pinch Point Where the other Hunters Drive The Deer Right To Me. I See Deer On The Weekdays on the same trac, But With a different Setup, but the pinch Point for sat Has Worked Like a charm. Theres other hunters on this trac, but where all spaced about almost half mile apart, so where all Happy. This Buck Came in with another Buck alittle smaller, That Was Not in My Plans, lol My plan Was To Try and Harvest one more doe Because it was the last day to shoot does til the end of the season, Glad My plans Changed I Pulled It Off, ive never had buck fever That Bad. I Was Shaking for a good 10 mins after i shot This buck, System was in Over Drive. Im So Glad Ive Been Letting Litte Bucks Walk, because if Id Have Taken The First Bucks i saw early in the season Then I Would'nt Have any Tags and would have watched This Deer Walk away, or worse yet, i would have never seen this or the other Buck.
