Well i had a great 2 day hunt in VA for the opener of turkey and deer season. First morning i saw some hens and as the circled around my set up i look up and saw a nice 7pt. opted to pass because he was a young deer. Later that evening i set up between to ridges and did a fighting purr about 4pm... i look up a few minutes later and here came 3 hens and 2 toms in toe behind them. i let the hens pass by my blind and ease down the ridge only to see the 2 toms spook at a coyote behind me and go their own way. guess thats what i get for passing up fried turkey! so about 45 minutes before dark i hear scratching behind me and i turn around and see probably 25 hens coming over the ridge. i decided to take one if i get the shot. i watched them for probably 45 minutes and picked out the biggest boss hen in the bunch. she was knocking all the other ones around and being the bully. so when she got to 23yds i let the arrow fly... she went down immediatly. wasnt the big tom but still an awsome hunt and tasted great! the next morning was cold and rainy, the birds were all down in the bottoms and only saw a few hens at first light. then about 945 i had 6 doe feed past my set up. so i figured i help out my buddy with some doe management. i shot at the last one at 43 yds and swhacked her too! and on a side note i was reading alot of posts about what broadheads to use and what people like. and all i can say is SWHACKERS ARE AMAZING! I shoot a diamond marquise with 70lb draw weight and they have put everything down ive hit even when it was marginal shots. The blood trails are incredible too. Good luck to all and hope the rut treats you well!
