Just finished up my cape mounts that I done on the two turkey I killed. These are my first ones ever, and the second one dried just a little crooked, but I'm still happy with them.I love to be able to do stuff like this myself. Now,will someone share how they attach the beards in the empty shells.I have seen a couple people, including GT that has all their beards displayed this way.

WOW, Those look great for a DIY!!! I take the shell that I killed the Turkey with...(If i can Find it lol) That auto throws them a good ways but anyway I cut and remove the plastic at the brass and fill the brass with hot glue but be careful to let the Glue cool a little so it will not burn the beard strands into. I then take a small eye-hook and put it through the primer where the firing pin dented it and hang up...Simple as that!!! Here's a older pic of mine...I have several that i need hooks for but thinking of making a new mantle piece. I have some more from over the years in a cedar Box I made.

They aren't perfect but I guess doing stuff on your own is a learning process, lol.I'm happier with them than I would have been if I'd paid to have them done because I know I done them myself.I was puzzled at how you held the beards in the shells. Thanks for the info. Thats gonna be my next project, then I'll be done til next turkey season when hopefully I'll be doing two more, lol.

I'd say you done a fine job on those two cape mounts Dianne. Glad you had a great first season! Are you gonna hang the beards and spurs up with the cape mount as well or put them seperate like GTs beards?

thanks hccountryboy.Been working on fixing the beards today.

@Gobblintom how did you get the eyehook in the shell.Did you drill a hole for it?????

The small dent that the firing pin leaves on the primer...I take a small nail and just barely get a hole in it and I use the Small brass eye hooks that you find in Craft stores but Walmart has them at times...I just screw them into the small nail hole I made in primer...It's soft Brass so it should go easy...Be careful when hammering and don't hit the wrong Nail LOL...It's not hard but then again, When you have killed as many turkeys as I have...................HAHAHAHA
