  • Wateree Bass Bedding and Biting

If you've been wanting to catch a big largemouth bass, now is the time to go and Lake Wateree is the place to be. The bass are bedding and biting. Brett Collins of Ridgeway caught a 6+ pounder on a jig and followed it up with a 5 pounder, also on a jig. Both were bedding bass.

Those, by far, were not the only big fish to bite today. During the CATT Trail bass tournament at Clearwater Cove, numerous 5+ pounders were brought to the scale, along with several that weighed over 6 pounds. Several teams brought in limits of fish that were all caught on beds.

Jigs seem to be doing the trick right now, and spinnerbaits have been productive as well. It's not uncommon to see a handful of big bass side by side in shallow water, only to have them all shun dozens of lures tossed at them. One angler reported if he was lucky, he'd catch one fish from a cluster like this, then move on to find another cluster where only one fish (or none) would bite.

'It's tough to leave a 6-pound fish that you can see in 12 inches of water, but after throwing lures to it for an hour, what else can you do?' Collins said.
