  • Buzz Baits and Jigs for Bass on Lake Hartwell

Over the weekend, Shane Lineberger of Lincolnton, NC, won the Walmart BFL Super Tournament on Lake Hartwell with a two-day weight total of 25.15 pounds. Lineberger and many of the other top money anglers agreed that the topwater bit is on, and when it slows down, switch to jigs.

Lineberger was throwing a True South V-Twin Buzz in the back of creeks in less than 12 inches of water to catch most of his fish. When the topwater bite slowed down, then he switched over to a black Brian's Bee jig in 1/2 ounce around boat docks. Lineberger said, that where he comes from near Lake Norman, that you have to work the boat docks.

Also fishing the tournament was local favorite, Marty Robinson from Lyman. Robinson has already qualified for the Bassmaster Classic in Shreveport-Bossier City, LA, on Feb. 24-26. Robinson said that he always enjoys fishing this area with friends, but he came to win.

Robinson was also fishing a buzzbait and Pop-R off points in 0 to 5 feet of water. Later in the day when the topwater bite started to slow down, he then switched over to 1/2 ounce Buckeye jig in green pumpkin with a Zoom green pumpkin Super Chunk trailer. Robinson then worked the outside bends where the river channels would swing around.

Well, those are the stories from the BFL tournament anglers that brought home the money this weekend. If you want to catch bass on Lake Hartwell like the money winners do, try throwing buzz- baits on top and jigs on the bottom.
