I cant remember the exact numbers but something like 90 to 95 percent of does have twins each year and out of thoes twins angain not to sure on the exact numbers but Im pretty sure im close 85 to 95 percent of them are does. On my families farm we have not shot does now we're over run with them. The way I try to shoot does is kill the older ones that dont have any yearlings with them. We have been trying to kill two to three does per buck we shoot. I mean they are overrunning us. we had a 35 acre feild of beans that they mowed down and if we dont get them under controle we run the risk of disease and and a lack of a good food supply to keep a healthy herd.
You can find a lot of information for free on QDMA website. I was reading up on it and they say any chance you get to take a 'Dominate doe' do so. Or any mature doe really...If you have a group of Doe you can take the largest or the dominant doe first and this creates confusion in the group and you can often take the second largest one right after. Even if the group runs off stay and sit a while because they will return to see where there leader went and offers you yet another chance to take another...But like I said check out the QDMA website and there is a ton of info on...well...QDM lol.
I agree with these guys.. Shoot all the Ol'Horse head does you can. I know it was wrong but i shot a Big mature doe once while a 6 pointer was getting on her back...He was there first and when she came in he checked her and then went to work so to speak so i shot her as fast as i could because her body was twice the size of the 6 pointer and even as she laid dead the 6 pointer didn't want to leave her...I walked to within 15 yards of him before he ran and then he didn't blow. I have posted before about hearing people in Wal Mart talking in Sporting Goods saying 'Yeah i had about 11 does in there and then here came this nice 4 pointer so i took him' Well to me thats just Crazy...That's why calls and rattling and scent don't work most of the time i think....The bucks that survive have all the does they can handle....Long story short...The best thing you can do for the deer herd is...'Man up and shoot some does!!!'
How many deer do you kill each year. I have taged out the last 3 years or so. since ive been serious about hunting. Killing 5 or 6 does a year. last year i actually killed 7 does. Some folks act like i shoot to many does but i assure you im not the guy who shoots whatever walks by.
