The founder of the Quality Deer Management Association is from Walterboro, South Carolina and he is a finalist for the 2011 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year award. Joe Hamilton has worked for SCDNR and The Nature Conservancy but when he founded the first chapter of QDMA it was in Walterboro. The organization was nurtured by his zeal for the white-tailed deer and now it is an International example of how management can be successfully applied to a game species. There are three other worthy candidates on the Bud ballot, but only one is from the Carolinas so here is the link to vote by Dec. 17.
